Dean Grant said he has ‘never had a day like it’ after scoring four times in 15 first-half minutes as Faversham beat Walton Casuals 7-0 on Saturday.

The Town striker netted after 12, 19, 25 and 27 minutes in Saturday’s mauling at Salters Lane.

He said: “I’ve never had a day like that in my career. I was excited to get two, then to get a hat-trick from a free-kick.

“To get a fourth was even better but I missed a header in the second half which should have made it five and I also had a goal disallowed which could have made it six.”

Town had been beaten 5-0 against Kingstonian in the Ryman League Cup final just three days earlier though Grant claimed: “I’m not sure it was in our heads. We knew 5-0 didn’t reflect the way the game went. We just went out with the mentality to boss the game and we did.”

Grant hopes he has more goals left in him this season – despite him claiming it has been stop-start due to his ill-fated switch to rivals Whitstable in November and subsequent spell at Canterbury City last month.

He said: “I was grateful Ray Turner gave me the chance to come back. I came through at Whitstable and only want the best for them but it wasn’t the right place for me to be and then Canterbury gave me the chance to get some sharpness back.

“Hopefully, I’ve still got a couple of goals left in me this season. I have set a personal target of 20 and I’m on 18 now.

"It’s been a stop-start season for me but I am back at Faversham where my best record has been.

“It’s the first club where I’ve been an out-and-out striker and I got 14 goals last season from November onwards. It’s been two stop-start seasons but I’ve still got 30-odd goals.”
