Ray Turner has vowed to put thoughts of FA Cup fairytales to one side and focus on getting Faversham back on track in Ryman League, Division 1 South.

Town reached the second qualifying round of the Cup for only the third time in their history with Saturday’s 1-0 win over Cray Wanderers but they were brought back down as Hythe grabbed a late winner to condemn them to a 2-1 defeat in the league on Tuesday night.

Boss Turner said: “The Cup win was great for the club and the £3,000 prize-money will be more than useful. Hopefully, it will be a case of third time lucky when we welcome Hitchin in the next round (on September 17) but for now, we have to get back to it in the league.”

The Hythe loss was Town’s first at home and second in three games and they welcome Lewes to the Shepherd Neame Stadium on Saturday (3pm) looking to return to the play-off places.

Turner said: “Lewes are another big club and I’m sure they’ll be looking to climb the table. It will be another tight game. It would be nice to get back to winning ways because Tuesday was frustrating.

"We made a poor start, so bad that I had to make some early changes but it seemed to work after that and from the mid-point of the first half, we were right in it and dominated long periods of the game.

“Our keeper didn’t have much to do until near the end, maybe we paid for pushing to try and win it and chasing the game.”

Turner claimed Town’s lack of draws in seven games this season ‘is not intentional’ and added: “We play with two forwards and our first thought is always to attack.

“Sometimes the goals come when you’re on top. We could easily have won on Tuesday but as it was, we couldn’t get the goal and both teams would probably agree that a draw would have been a fair result.”

Luke Harvey (shoulder) is the only doubt, although George Monger should be fit to start his second game in four days after his return on Tuesday.
