Faversham will be out to finish a disappointing season on a high this Saturday.

The relegated Lilywhites, whose 13-year Isthmian League stay will come to an end, are due to host Three Bridges at Salters Lane.

But Sammy Moore’s men could at least avoid finishing bottom - after they beat basement boys Corinthian last Saturday 2-0 and then lost by the same scoreline at fourth-placed Beckenham on Tuesday - provided they better Corinthian’s result at Whitehawk.

Town manager Moore said: “We want to finish strongly.

“We want to send a message to the supporters and send them out on a high.

“They have been fantastic since we’ve been here.”

Players from Faversham’s under-23s, who have impressed in their development division, were given a chance in midweek while midfielder Bode Anidugbe and defenders Frazer Shaw and Michael Ademiluyi have left the club. Most of those young guns will again be involved against Three Bridges.

Darren Phillips - who has already committed to stay next season alongside fellow defender Jacques Kpohomouh - and on-loan young Gillingham frontman Ronald Sithole struck at Corinthian three days earlier.

Moore reflected: “I thought, Corinthian game away, we were outstanding.

“It was a game where we could have sort of given up - but we want to finish above them and had a bit of pride at stake.

“Like I said to the players, we still have something to play for and we can build a bit of momentum with how we sign-off.

“Tuesday night, we trimmed the squad down and a few boys have gone. It was a case of playing some of the 23s. I will be bedding them in during these last couple of games.

“We had three starting and three on the bench. Their manager even said to me: ‘For 70 minutes, you have battered us.’

“The young kid, Harry [Barkaway], has made a rash tackle in the box [which saw them give away a first-half penalty]. But like I said to him, it’s a huge learning curve, probably the biggest one he’s had.

“I was proud of the boys, especially the senior ones, for adapting.

“The second goal sort of epitomised our season. Their boy goes through, Bailey [Vose] makes a save, and it hits Kpog’s knee and goes in.”

On his exit, Shaw wrote on Twitter: “Would like to wish @FavershamTownFC all the best for next season. Some good people at the club that I’ll never lose love or respect for.

“Next season, we hit the ground running with a new challenge!”

Winger Kieron Campbell remains with Faversham, although he has missed their run-in through injury, while they have agreed terms with their first summer recruit.

Experienced and versatile defender Matt Newman is due to join from Isthmian Premier outfit Folkestone ahead of their 2023/24 Southern Counties East Premier Division campaign.
