Manager Sammy Moore is preparing Faversham to host early frontrunners Fisher - but isn’t reading much into the league table yet.

Town have had two wins and two defeats at the start of their Southern Counties East Premier Division season.

This Saturday’s visitors Fisher lead the way, having only dropped points once in their first five games.

But Moore, whose side will also host Bearsted on Tuesday, said: “I think the table is pretty false at the minute.

“I don’t really look at the league table until 15 games in. You play a lot of cup matches and it’s hard to get momentum going but we picked up form in the league with a good win against Whitstable.

“We’re coming up against a good Fisher side.

“They’re a little bit off-the-cuff. They don’t really have a pattern of play - but they’re effective.

“There’s no easy games in this league but we have two home games coming up now. We’re certainly not panicking.”

Moore saw his side suffer their first defeat on their new 3G pitch, losing 4-0 to Isthmian Premier Lewes in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round on Saturday.

Debutant striker Stefan Payne had a goal disallowed and Moore felt the visitors could have been reduced to 10 men.

He reflected: “I thought we started well in the first 25 or 30 minutes.

“We had a good goal disallowed. Watching it back on video, he’s perfectly onside.

“Five minutes or so after that, Kieron Campbell goes down. The referee said he wasn’t going to get the ball - I’m absolutely baffled by that decision.

“You need those decisions to go your way when you play against good sides.

“I’m not one to talk about the officials but I was disappointed in those decisions. Those key moments can really change the game.

“I’m disappointed in the manner of the goals, as well. First one, we gave the ball away from our throw-in and then you’re always chasing the game.”

There’s been changes to the Lilywhites’ squad. Payne fills the void left by hitman Gary Lockyer while keeper Hafed Al-Droubi has also joined.

“We have got a big squad,” Moore explained.

“Sometimes, it needs shuffling and, sometimes, players make a decision for you and leave.”

Al-Droubi worked alongside Moore at Isthmian Premier Potters Bar last term.

He said: “He’s a really good talker, a very confident boy.

“He was a free agent. Bailey isn’t available Tuesday night so we needed to bring another in.

“Once we knew Haf was available, it was a no-brainer.”

Lockyer came out of Faversham’s starting line-up - and felt he was unlikely to get back in.

“We had a couple of disappointing results at Corinthian and Lydd so we wanted to shuffle the pack,” explained Moore, who was also without frontman Warren Mfula against Lewes due to illness.

“We wanted to go with a bit more pace for the Merstham game - and it paid off. When Gary was out of the team, we got three wins.

“Gary is a good lad, a good striker. But when you’re out of the team, you want to play and he felt we were not going to change the team.

“He leaves with our best wishes.”

With Lockyer leaving and Mfula unavailable, Faversham moved quickly to recruit 32-year-old Payne after he departed Tonbridge.

Moore said: “We only had one striker in Warren, although Ashley Miller can play up there as well, but we wanted someone we could see him having a strike partnership with.

“Stefan scored a perfectly good goal on Saturday, which was chalked off.

“He felt the time was right to come and play with mates.”
