Finn Smart-Weeden targets further improvement in British Junior SuperSport Championship

Finn Smart-Weeden improved his position in the British Junior SuperSport Championship but knows there’s more to come.
The Painter’s Forstal rider finished 15th in the first race at Donington Park on Saturday, picking up a point.
Sunday’s race was a more exciting affair with the teenager fighting back from a bad start which put him at the back of a pack.
He fought his way through and was battling for ninth but a last-lap tussle saw him pipped to 11th place.
Five more points took his tally for the weekend to six and moved him up to 18th from 21st in the standings.
Smart-Weeden, 14, said: “Although I improved my championship position, I still think I should have done better and will be looking to improve at the next round.”
There was an eventful start to the weekend when Smart-Weeden, the second youngest rider in the series, was taken out in Friday practice, causing significant damage to his bike.
After an unsuccessful complaint to the organisers, mechanic dad, Steve, had less than five hours to source parts and repair the bike before qualifying.
The week before, Smart-Weeden claimed a first and second in class during the penultimate round of the NG Phoenix Junior SuperSport championship at Oulton Park.
Those results, on a wet and packed Cheshire circuit, extended his lead at the top of the leaderboard.
In order to allow all classes two races, there was no qualifying and grid positions were decided by championship position, which put Smart-Weeden on pole in class but 33rd on the mixed class grid for race one, along with mini twins and Formula 400 adult classes ahead of the Junior Supersport.
He goes into September’s final round at Pembrey 110 points ahead of second place.
