Ray Turner hopes to keep momentum going at Faversham

Ray Turner says there is a good feel around Faversham Town this season.

Town have enjoyed a good start to the Bostik South East taking four points from their first two games and are also through to the second round of the Kent Senior Cup.

Turner wants to keep that momentum going as they face Hackney Wick in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Manager Turner said: “There is a nice feel about the place at the moment.

“The Kent Senior Cup game against Greenwich was important for us as well to come through that and keep the momentum going.

“Hackney Wick only formed in 2015 and they look like they have a fantastic project going on up there.

“It’s always interesting playing a side you’ve played before and don’t know much about.

“I have got a small report on them but will be focusing on what we do well. We still have improvements to make and want to use the win on Sunday (against Thamesmead) to kick on.”

Faversham will then play Ashford United on Monday in the Bostik South East. Ashford have started the season well winning their opening two fixtures.

Turner said: “They have signed some quality players and must be up there as one of the favourites to get promoted.

“Gary Alexander came and watched our match on Sunday and it is a game we are looking forward to.”

Turner’s side picked up their first win of the league season after coming from behind to beat Thamesmead.

Harry Goodger and Danny Walder’s goals gave them a 2-1 victory on Sunday.

Turner added: “Getting a win early is always important when you are bedding down a new side.

“Coming back from behind is also good for a bit of belief and confidence.

“We started terribly. The first 15 or 20 minutes we were slow out of the blocks but then we had a bit more determination and resilience and worked our way back in the game.

“We were well on top in that stage of the game and managed to get the two goals. We controlled the game without being brilliant.

“It’s tough enough being away from home and then going a goal behind.

“It does not do them any harm to the team to know they can come back after an early set back.”
