Joint-boss Phil Miles says Faversham Town still chasing a centre-forward

Faversham Town’s search for a striker continues as they bid to stay out of trouble in Bostik South East.
Back-to-back defeats this week, and wins for the sides below them, mean the Lilywhites are now just six points off the bottom.
They’ve signed midfielder Michael Freiter from Herne Bay and remain active in the transfer market.
Faversham have been playing Dave Cook up front but he’s more used to operating in midfield or defence.
Joint-boss Phil Miles said: “We’re still trying to chase this elusive centre-forward.
“It’s not been too successful at the moment but maybe something could happen possibly next week.
“We’ve still got 10 games left so if we can get a forward in before the end of the season, it will give us a bit of healthy competition.
“Dave has been doing a good job for us but where we’ve done so well over the four games where we were unbeaten, the players were setting some really high standards and we’ve just had a bit of a lull in our performances individually.
“Defensively, no-one is opening us up and giving us the runaround.
“It’s quite the opposite, we’re holding our own and we’re competing but in the last two games we probably haven’t created as many chances as we would have liked.
“I’m not digging out the forwards but we need to be more clinical in front of goal.”
Faversham lost 2-1 at Hastings on Saturday and 2-0 at Haywards Heath on Tuesday.
Miles said: “They were two tough games, both against teams in the play-offs and we’re not too disheartened because, performance-wise, we’ve competed. We haven’t been out of games, we’ve always been in with a chance and that’s all we can ask at the moment.
“But with all the results going against us last weekend, we know it’s going to be difficult to the end of the season.”
Faversham are back at Salters Lane on Saturday when they host sixth-placed Whyteleafe.
Miles said: “Whyteleafe is another tough game but we’ve got to keep digging in and stick together.
“We were disappointed after the Hastings game because we felt we did enough to get a point.
“Tuesday night we were disappointed but we can’t feel sorry for ourselves, we’ve got to stick together and go again on Saturday. Hopefully we can start firing up front, taking our chances and trying to get the points that will keep us safe.”
