Ray Turner has set his sights on getting through Faversham’s bank holiday weekend double-header unscathed and establishing Town among the early pacemakers in Ryman League, Division 1 South.

After back-to-back league wins, Town ventured onto the road to Wembley on Saturday, coming from behind to beat Epsom & Ewell in the FA Cup preliminary round on Saturday.

The win set up a first qualifying round tie at home to Cray Wanderers on September 3 – the same opponents they visit in the league on Saturday (3pm).

Turner said: “It was nice to get through Saturday as it was an awkward one – one of a few games that had upset written over it – rock hard ground, windy.

"We weren’t brilliant but I can’t fault the lads. Due to injuries, I had to play the same side in all three games in the first week. They have all done everything I have asked of them.”

Turner admitted it was ‘always a bit awkward’ to face a side in consecutive weeks and added: “They will be more rested than us and they look to have found their scoring touch on Saturday with three goals.

“Most people look at them as top-five prospects for the season. There is a lot going on behind the scenes there."

Turner added: “This weekend is a good test for us. Cray and then Herne Bay at home on Monday (3pm) in quick succession – we’ve got some work to do.

“The key for us is to come through unbeaten, if we could take four points that would be nice.

“It would make it 10 points from four games in August and that constitutes a good start.

“It’s a big weekend. I just don’t need any more injuries. I am not the only manager to be counting the players out and counting them back in again.”
