Manager James Collins is delighted with the performances he is getting from Faversham’s injury-hit squad.

They battled to a 1-0 victory at Corinthian in Isthmian South East on Saturday, despite Collins' side being severely depleted.

Rising prospect Benedict Bioletti, 17, pulled out on the day of the match with a neck and arm problem while defender Joe Denny - already contending with a broken finger - was also ill but played on.

An early penalty from Eddie Allsopp, who will start a ban this weekend, earned Faversham the points as goalkeeper Luke Watkins produced a fine display. But he is now a doubt for their next match against Sevenoaks with a knee problem.

Others on Town’s treatment table include defender Matt Bourne (foot), Clark Woodcock (ankle) and club captain Harry Harding (knee), alongside midfielders Sam Bewick and D’Jean Spencer with hamstring injuries.

Collins admitted: “I have never known an injury list like it.”

But they have nevertheless produced wins, also beating Sutton Common Rovers in the Velocity Trophy 2-1 last Tuesday in the first round through goals from striker Emmanuel Oluwasemo.

“People have got to come in and take their chance,” said Collins, who is trying to sign two players on loan this week.

“We have a squad of 23. It’s testament to the players that have come in who have taken their chances.

"There’s still lots of room for improvement. Even though we started last season well, I probably had a strong 12, but now, we have depth.

“We are still not scoring as many goals as I would like, but we are heading in the right direction.

“I keep pushing them and wanting more, and they keep delivering.

"I’m excited to see how far I can keep pushing them.”

Striker Leroy Hlabi has joined Faversham.

Collins revealed: “He was at Gillingham. He had been at Staines.

“He was recommended to me by Neil Cugley at Folkestone because he had been training with them.

“I just, basically, needed to strengthen the squad.

“He has come on and done okay in the last two games.”

Allsopp had just started to find form, although, having received a straight red card against Sutton Common Rovers, he is beginning a three-game suspension.

“He did what he did the other night. He has got to learn from that,” Collins admitted.

“There is no point in crying about it.

"I still expect us to put in a good performance this weekend.”

Micky Collins’ Sevenoaks, currently 16th, are the visitors to Salters Lane this Saturday.

Faversham boss Collins said: “They are experienced at this level. I have never had an easy game against Sevenoaks.

“I know it will not be easy but we are at home and our home record is good. Then we play Hythe (on Tuesday) in the Kent Senior Cup.

“It’s been nice to have a week off, although I think they’ve had two weeks off.

“Hopefully we can put on a performance in front of the home fans.”

Midfielder Lewis Chambers is back from injury, though.
