Faversham joint-boss Danny Chapman open to more signings

Faversham remain keen to plug gaps in their squad ahead of the new Isthmian South East campaign.

Town have adopted a youthful look in the off-season on the back of a player exodus, with work ethic and fitness emerging as desirable traits.

Joint-manager Danny Chapman said: “Last year too many times we didn’t get outplayed, we got outrun.

“That’s why we thought we’d bring the age down and have boys that want to run around.

“They are our own players, we haven’t inherited them. We brought a few in, kept two or three. The only one I’m really disappointed about to be honest is Ashley Miller, because we liked Ashley.

“I can understand him going to Ramsgate because they’re signing players left right and centre. Some of the players won’t be happy but you can see they’re going to be challenging so I can understand him going there.

“We’re talking to players, summer will be a busy period again. During pre-season players will be disgruntled and not happy, so we’re still actively looking.

“We've still got money to spend, it's just got to be right for Faversham.

“I’m happy with a lot of the squad. We need a forward player, another midfielder and possibly a full-back.”

Chapman also insists he is unconcerned by the Lilywhites’ 9-1 defeat to Gillingham in their pre- season opener last Saturday.

He added: “We did alright in spells but that’s not the game to gauge it on really as it was a League 1 team.

“It was about the day and getting a few people in. We’re pleased, the boys got minutes under their belt.”

Faversham retained Matt Bourne, Jamie Maxted, Donvieve Jones and Michael Freiter this summer, as well as bringing Simon Overland back for his third spell at the club.

They have also secured the services of Ryan Huckle, who spent time on loan at Salters Lane last season, along with Mitch Chapman, Josh Dorling and James Miles.
