Ray Turner is determined to carry on as manager of Faversham Town next season.

It’s been a real slog for the Lilywhites in 2017-18 and they may well finish in their lowest position since promotion from the Kent League eight years ago.

But long-serving Turner, who was appointed back in 2011, has no plans to walk away in the summer.

He said: “I’d like to have a clean slate right now. I’ve made plenty of mistakes this year but there’s also things you can’t control.

“I’m the manager of the football club and I have to front up the fact that expectation has been raised and results this season haven’t been good enough.

“Hopefully, we will have the opportunity to put things right because there are players who want to come back and play for me.”

Back-to-back defeats over Easter were Faversham’s 21st and 22nd in Bostik South.

Turner said: “It really tests you. It’s not just players, I find people and characters interesting and you have to look at yourself. You have to dig deep at times and it’s important you find that out about yourself.

“I couldn’t have a more experienced No.2 alongside me (than Clive Walker) and he said ‘you’ll learn more this season than you ever will.’

“Those words will make me a better and stronger manager. I’ve certainly grown another skin this year.”

Faversham lost 3-1 at Guernsey on Wednesday. They host Thamesmead Town on Saturday.
