Crowds gathered to watch an air show marking the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

Four Spitfires, a Hurricane and their present day counterpart, the Eurofighter Typhoon, were among those taking part in the free event at Folkestone and Dover yesterday.

But strong winds meant that a planned parachute drop by the RAF Falcons display team could not take place.

Event director Chris Yates said: “It was a very good day and there were lots of smiling faces.

“The weather was kind to us until the wind speed got too high for the Falcons to do their jump. Everything else went as planned.

“It was a nice busy day and there were lots of people watching from The Leas and the beach.
“It was a good way to remember the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.”

Mr Yates added that there were no food and drink stands for the show as they wanted to encourage people to support traders in the town.
