Bomb disposal teams were called to a medical facility following reports of a suspicious package being left outside the building.
Just before 7.45am, police were sent to Radnor Park Avenue in Folkestone.
Pictures show the bomb squad at the Ash Eton medical facility, which is run by the Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT).
The site is near the Royal Victoria Hospital and is home to the East Kent personality disorder service which provides therapy sessions for patients. It is understood that no one was harmed and the KMPT is offering support to anyone who feels they need it.
Radnor Park West was shut as a precaution but has since been reopened.
“The MOD’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended the scene to examine the item and confirmed the area to be safe,” a police spokesperson said.
“Inquiries into the circumstances of the incident are underway.”
A MoD spokesperson added that an Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was sent to the building after being contacted by the police.
The item was non-hazardous and returned to the custody of the police.
A KMPT spokesperson said: “We are grateful to Kent Police and the Ministry of Defence's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team for their swift response to a suspicious package at one of our buildings this morning.
“The safety of our patients and staff is our absolute priority and we will continue to liaise with the relevant authorities.”
