A man died in a seafront car park after attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.

Police cordoned off the area opposite the Leas Lift in Lower Sandgate Road yesterday evening after concerns were raised about the man's welfare.

This morning, the force confirmed the man had died at the scene.

Officers and paramedics remained at the car park for several hours, but the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 4.39pm on Tuesday 13 September to reports of concern for the welfare of a man in Lower Sandgate Road, Folkestone.

"Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and the man was declared deceased at the scene.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and details will be passed onto the coroner's office."

An ambulance service spokesman added: "Ambulance crews in one car and two ambulances attended the scene following reports a man had collapsed.

"Efforts to resuscitate him proved unsuccessful and he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene."
