14:00, 20 June 2016

Two workmen were stranded for up to two hours after a cherry-picker toppled over in Folkestone.

It was apparently being used to repair the railway viaduct in Foord Road at about 10.30am.

Three fire engines were called, along with teams from Hythe, Dover and Deal.

Ambulance service spokesman Rich Airey said the crane had fallen about 25ft in the air, with the men inside the cage.

Watch manager Stuart Nunn said: "It had hit some soft soil and a drain which had made it tip over precariously.

"We had to use our safe access equipment and we had to find a way to keep the men warm.

"We secured the cherry picker and we used trees to anchor it.

"Obviously we got to the guys as quickly as possible."

The fire service has had to leave some of its equipment there until the machine is recovered.

The men were checked over by paramedics and came away without any injuries.
