A cat has died following a house fire.
The tragedy was discovered after firefighters were called to the blaze in Folkestone this morning.
Two fire engines arrived in Southbourne Road to find smoke coming out of the kitchen.
Crews wearing breathing masks used a hose reel jet and a nearby hydrant to extinguish the blaze.
A child was passed into the care of paramedics as a precaution for smoke inhalation.
However, a cat died despite the best efforts of the fire team, who tried to revive the pet with a specially-designed animal oxygen mask.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
