A community feast is being staged by campaigners as part of a global movement bidding to banish food waste.
The Disco Soup phenomenon started in Germany and has spread round the world as people have come together to marry dancing with cooking up surplus produce.
Charmaine Jacobs is responsible for making Folkestone the latest outpost of the movement - and today she and the Feeding Folkestone group will be helping to bring together the community for music and a meal at the bowls club in Radnor Park.
"This Disco Soup concept, it started actually in Germany and now it's a global movement," she said.
"To reduce food waste, that's the ultimate aim. I went to a farm in Gillingham and we harvested pumpkin and squash, so the pumpkin and squash that we harvested yesterday, which would have gone to waste, will go into some of the ingredients of the meal at the disco soup.
"We'll also have people bring in some surplus from home, the local Morrisons in Cheriton has said that if they have anything on that day they will donate, and we basically put it all together and come up with recipes from what we've got and invite the community to come for a meal, and just sit down and share a meal and communally cook together as well.
"It kind of brings people together to create cohesion as well, which is another of outcome of such an event."
Local DJ's Globoloco Disco and Local Foreigner will be playing at the event, which starts at 11am and will also include apple pressing, fermenting, crafts and more.
The communal meal will be served at 1pm.
Ms Jacobs is part of the burgeoning gleaning movement, which sees people collecting produce from farms which would otherwise be unharvested or left to rot as it is not commercially valuable.
Some produce is used for events such as this, while some is given to charities and food banks who help feed those in need.
