Nobody was left seriously injured in a crash in Folkestone last night.

One of the cars ended up smashing into a tree and the driver, a man in his 20s, suffered chest and abdominal injuries.

Fire, police and ambulance crews were called to the junction with Marshall Street and Linden Crescent - which was closed for around two hours.

The other casualty, a woman in her 40s, was also treated for back pains by paramedics from two ambulances and two ambulance cars.

Both were taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford as priorities but were fully conscious, a spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said.

Debris from the crash was left littered over the road.

Smoke was coming from under the bonnet of one of the cars prompting fears that it was about to burst into flames.

Two fire engines from Folkestone arrived to deal with a person still in the car and take care of the smoke.

By the time they arrived both casualties were already out of their cars.

Harvey Dorling, watch manager at Folkestone fire station, said: "It was quite an impact but no serious injuries, nobody trapped or injured.

"There was initially someone in the vehicle but they weren't when we got there. In one of the cars there was smoke so initially feared a small fire under the bonnet."

Crews made the scene safe and took care of the smoke.

Kent Police said the road was open again by 10pm.
