Esteemed Question Time host David Dimbleby let his hair down this week - when he slid down a child's slide ahead of a fiery TV debate.

The broadcaster experienced the full force of one of Folkestone's children's attractions - but not before some youngsters had a go first.

The BBC star went down the metal slide at Payers Park, just a few minutes' walk from the Quarterhouse where the show was filmed on Thursday night.

His video showed a queue of people outside the venue.

But Mr Dimbleby was in a smaller queue himself, allowing children to use the slide before he did.

Before he went he said: "This is serious stuff tonight.

"As we get closer and closer to this vote, more people are watching all of the time.

"We have a slide down the side of the Question Time set and I couldn't resist it - so I thought I would just try it.

"If I get to the bottom safely I will see you at 10.45pm."
