A dachshund who had escaped and bolted into a road, was chased by a concerned neighbour who was wearing her pyjamas.

Brown and tanned pooch Ken had escaped from a house in Bridge Street in Folkestone on Thursday at around 8.30am.

Lauran Raché, 24, was getting ready for work and had half a face of makeup when she heard someone calling after the stubborn dog.

By then he had already made his getaway up the road.

Miss Raché, a marketing executive at Saga, said: “He was running amok and I thought he was going to get run over.

“I stormed out of the door in my pyjamas, with half a face of makeup, and tried to call him, but he trotted off up the road.”

The frantic neighbour was trying to lure the dog back into the house, as she was looking after him for a friend.

She said: “I was walking behind him, talking to him, saying ‘Come on Ken, let’s go home,’ but he wasn’t having any of it.

“Then he stopped at a dead end and I managed to get close to him, stroke him and calm him down.

“I grabbed his collar, but I didn’t have a lead, so I was just sitting there in the middle of the road with this dog.

“In the end an elderly lady, who must have heard me talking to him, came out with a bike clip with some elastic on, and we used that as a lead.

“My mum had contacted our neighbour, who came home from work, and I just had to stand outside with Ken waiting for her.”

The former Folkestone School for Girls student was rewarded with a box of chocolates for her efforts.

“My mum thought it was hilarious,” she said.

“I love animals. I’d do anything for an animal.”
