A man who fled the scene after an alleged hit and run left his shoes behind in scenes that echo fairy tale Cinderella.

The crash happened in Radnor Park Road in Folkestone at around 9.30am today.

A witness said a silver car smashed into a parked BMW, damaging the front wheel and body work, and hitting the wing mirror.

The air bag was reportedly released, but this didn't stop the driver exiting the car and leaving the scene.

But in his attempts to flee his footwear, a pair of black sliders, came off and he ran away in just his socks, the witness reported.

The witness, known as Liam, said: "I was walking along the road and heard a big bang.

"I thought 'what hell was that?'

"A silver/grey car had whacked into a blue stationary car. It hit the wing mirror and the tyre burst.

"The driver leapt from the car and ran off.

"I thought no one runs from a a crash like that.

"I tried to grab him, and so did another man, who actually took a tumble in his attempts.

"He ran towards the sports centre.

"He was wearing a blue jumper, black jeans, white socks but no shoes because his sliders are still at the scene."

Police were called to the road following reports of a one car crash - and are now searching for the driver.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "Kent Police was called to a report of a single-vehicle collision in Radnor Park Road, Folkestone at around 9.30am on Wednesday, May 15.

"There have been no reported injuries and officers remain in the area carrying out enquiries to locate the driver."
