A driver who hit two women with his car before fleeing and smashing into a tree in Folkestone has been jailed.
Adam Dalgleish had been smoking cannabis and drinking alcohol before the hit-and-run in Tram Road car park on April 16.
The smash happened after the 21-year-old left a bar in the town in the early hours of the morning.
He got into his Peugeot 206, and as he reversed out of a parking space, hit two women who were standing nearby.
He then drove off, but lost control of the car in nearby Churchill Avenue and crashed into a tree.
The two women were not seriously injured, but Dalgleish suffered a broken leg and had to be cut out of the badly-damaged car.
An investigation was launched by the police’s serious collision investigation unit and traces of cannabis were found in Dalgleish’s bloodstream.
When interviewed, Dalgleish admitted he had no licence nor insurance and had been smoking cannabis and drinking alcohol.
At Folkestone Magistrates' Court, Dalgleish, of Shaftesbury Avenue, pleaded guilty to careless driving, driving while under the influence of drugs or drink, failing to stop after a collision, and having no driving licence or insurance.
He was sentenced to a total of 16 weeks in prison, disqualified from driving for five years and eight weeks and will need to take an extended test before he is allowed to drive again.
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Scott Lynch said: "I hope this result serves as a warning that drivers who fail to stop after a collision face a custodial sentence.
"Thankfully the injuries of the two pedestrians were not life-threatening, but investigations into cases like this one require many hours of work by officers and I am pleased with today’s result."
