A driver has shot a hilarious video mocking the state of an “awful” Kent road in which a huge crack recently appeared.

The damage to the route was first seen last week at Folkestone Warren, which runs alongside a busy railway used by trains travelling between the town and Dover.

David Larigo filmed his short trip along the road yesterday morning with a funny commentary of the journey.

He jokes: “Just starting the treacherous ascent from the Warren towards Folkestone. Quite tricky, and technical in places.

“Got to really concentrate, especially in this last section.

“Catches a lot of people out.

“It's a commitment - it's all about commitment.

As he completes the course, he comments: “Nailed it. Job done.”

Both Kent County Council and Network Rail say they are not responsible for the road where the crack has appeared.

It was spotted after part of the nearby promenade at the beauty spot had lifted up, creating an uneven surface.

The movement is believed to have been caused by heavy downpours which have saturated the ground below the concrete.

It has led to speed restrictions being enforced on the nearby stretch of the railway.

Mr Larigo says he created the clip “for a bit of a laugh”, but recognises the “danger” of the broken tarmac.

The 52-year-old told KentOnline: “As a bit of fun I decided to film on my dashcam my drive up that particular section with a bit of commentary.

“I visit the Warren three or four times a week to walk my dog, Koda, as she loves it down there, and am used to driving up and down that road.

“Whilst the video was shot purely for a bit of a laugh it does also highlight the fact the condition of the road is really awful.

“Over the four years that I have been visiting the Warren, it has become increasingly worse with large potholes and ruts forming, and the cracked section at the end of the video is definitely getting bigger and more dangerous.

“I think this is a real shame as the Warren is such a beautiful place that is enjoyed by a wide range of people, from families having picnics and exploring the rocks, to fossil hunters and dog walkers.”

He added: “I, along with countless others would be really disappointed if we could no longer access and enjoy one of Kent’s many beautiful locations and would urge those who have any influence in the maintenance and rebuilding of the road to act quickly if we are to be able to continue the Warren for many years to come.”

The railway between Folkestone and Dover was previously shut for nine months after the sea wall at Shakespeare Bay suffered huge storm damage on Christmas Eve 2015.

It added hours to journey times for some commuters who were forced to take alternative routes to work and repairs cost £40 million.

Meanwhile, there have been at least eight landslides in Folkestone already this year, which are also linked to rainfall.

Two happened on the Road of Remembrance, which has now been shut for two months.
