The magic of Christmas will come to Folkestone tonight when Father Christmas begins his tour of the town for charity.

The Rotary Club of Folkestone has earmarked eight days this month to parade Father Christmas around the streets to raise money for less fortunate people, including the homeless.

Festive music will be heard first, followed by special helpers who will go door to door collecting the valuable donations.

The fundraising will start at Cherry Garden Lane tonight and will end on Wednesday, December 21, in Hook Close.

The money will be used to buy large quantities of food which is then separated into bags and delivered to people in the area who need it.

A statement from the club said: “The parcels are received very well by the recipients and we have had numerous letters of thanks in the past for support and consideration."

As in previous years, Folkestone Rotary Club will continue supporting the Winter Shelter Project for homeless people, where local churches help with accommodation and welfare needs.

“We will make every endeavour to cover all the streets listed but circumstances may arise where routes need to be amended at any stage and areas omitted.”
