A pensioner had a shock when she returned to her home to find her kitchen on fire.

It happened in retirement flats at Homepine House, Sandgate Road, Folkestone, at 11.30am on Sunday.

The woman had been out and discovered the fire when she got home.

Fire crews from Folkestone tackled the blaze wearing breathing apparatus.

The fire was contained to the flat and the woman was uninjured. The cause is thought to have been an electrical fault.
