A man who died after being hit by a lorry on the A20 near Folkestone after he is believed to have fallen from a bridge has been identified.

Police today confirmed the 33-year-old killed yesterday was from Monmouth in South Wales.

Emergency crews were called to the coast-bound carriageway near the Roundhill Tunnels at about 5am.

The road was shut for more than six hours while an investigation was carried out.

Delays built after it was closed between the M20 at J13 (Folkestone) and the A260 White Horse Hill in Hawkinge.

Traffic was being diverted via the A259 and A260, with congestion on the A20 back to J12 of the M20 for Cheriton.

The Highways Agency said the road reopened from 11.30am.

Police said it appears the man had fallen from a bridge before being hit.

A spokesman said an investigation is under way and crash scene investigators examine the site.

A post mortem examination is due to be held tomorrow before an inquest is set to be opened and adjourned in Folkestone next week.
