Hundreds of people packed out the Leas Cliff Hall last night as rock band Levellers kicked off their new tour in Folkestone.

It was the first date of their 'Greatest Hits' tour in support of their Greatest Hits album released last month.

Famed for tracks 'Beautiful Day', 'Julie' and 'Just the One', the band wowed the crowd with more than 1,200 people jammed into the venue.

The album features brand new collaborations with Imelda May and Frank Turner and has all 31 singles and videos to date.

They were supported by 2-tone legends The Selecter and multi-instrumentalist Laura Kidd aka She Makes War.

Keyboard player Matt Savage tweeted saying what a "fun start to the tour" the show was.

Meanwhile, fans have also taken to Twitter today celebrating what many have called an amazing night.

It was a great night for the venue too.

A spokesman for the Leas Cliff Hall said: " The Levellers opened their Greatest Hits tour to a roaring 1300 strong crowd at the Leas Cliff Hall Folkestone.

"The tour travels to Europe today and returns to the UK for a further 13 dates throughout November.

"The Levellers last played the Folkestone venue in 2009 and front man Mark Chadwick spoke of the return to the venue on stage saying ‘It’s been too long Folkestone’."

The tour will also take in Bristol, Manchester, Glasgow, Newcastle and Portsmouth.
