Hundreds of pounds have been raised in just 24 hours to help fund the Folkestone sprucer scheme.

A crowd funding website launched yesterday has already raised more than £400.

It is targeting £5,000 to ensure the work by the sprucer can continue.

The future of the scheme remains in doubt after funding was axed by Folkestone Town Council in April this year.

The council had provided a £10,000 yearly grant to the scheme to keep the streets tidy and spruce up Folkestone.

But town councillors scrapped the money leaving the long-term future of the scheme uncertain.

Pete and his team of volunteers carry out odd jobs all around the town like removing graffiti and planting new flowerbeds and painting areas looking a bit tired.

But more more recently the team's time has been spent more so on tackling the town's litter problems.

Without the £5,000 support the scheme will simply stop.

The appeal - which runs until the end of the month - asks for a £2 donation to the sprucer which if everyone did it would see the target reached.

The scheme, which costs £20,000 to run, launched in 2013 under the Bradstone Association residents group and has co-ordinated and run the scheme since.
