11:20, 03 March 2017

A police inspector will appear in court accused of sending indecent images and voyeurism.

Timothy Ryton, of Kent Police, was suspended from his duties pending an investigation after being arrested on January 23. He was charged yesterday.

The 45-year-old, formerly of Folkestone, is charged with three counts of distributing indecent images, two of voyeurism, two of taking indecent videos and two of sending indecent videos.

Mr Ryton was most recently an inspector based in the Force Control Centre at Kent Police headquarters in Maidstone.

He was questioned by officers and has been bailed to an address in Essex.

The matter was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission on January 24 - the day after Mr Ryton's arrest - but has been passed back to Kent Police.

An internal disciplinary investigation is now due to take place.

He will appear at Crawley Magistrates Court on March 29.
