A Folkestone man who threatened to stab his victim after stealing his bike has been jailed.
Shamen Williams, 22, previously of Queen Street, appeared at Canterbury Crown Court last week and received an 18 month prison sentence for the theft.
In June this year, Williams was with his 49-year-old victim in Sandgate Road, Folkestone when he demanded he let him borrow his mountain bike.
The victim handed over the bike through fear but in the belief he would have it returned.
However, when the victim asked for the bike back, Williams became aggressive and refused.
He then threatened to stab the victim and suggested he had a knife concealed in the backpack he was carrying, before cycling off.
"The courts have recognised the serious nature of this robbery and Williams will be in prison where he can contemplate his actions."
The bike owner reported what happened to the police, who then located Williams cycling the stolen mountain bike along the promenade of Sunny Sands beach and he was arrested.
In an interview, Williams claimed the victim had consented to letting him have the bike and did not have chance to return it before he was arrested.
Detective Constable David Hart from Kent Police said: "Williams was determined to take the victim’s bike and when challenged threatened him with the prospect of being stabbed.
"The courts have recognised the serious nature of this robbery and Williams will be in prison where he can contemplate his actions."
Williams was sentenced 18 months in prison, which will be followed by three years on licence.
