A nursery where children do yoga has been rated “outstanding” – just months after being branded “inadequate” by Ofsted.

“Caring” staff at Casper Nursery in Capel-le-Ferne, Folkestone, have bent over backwards to ensure they achieved top marks following the inspectors’ latest visit.

Ofsted gave the setting the worst possible rating in November, resulting in a “very stressful and upsetting time” for those working there.

But in a report published on Wednesday, the watchdog praises Casper’s “extremely calm, and interesting atmosphere”.

Inspectors also note children’s “impressive” behaviour and how they engaged with activities such as yoga, washing up and daily risk assessments of the garden.

“Staff use daily experiences very well to incorporate a range of learning opportunities into their routines,” the officials write.

“For example, children enjoy washing up after snack time and being involved in the daily risk assessment of the garden.

“They also relish the opportunity to take part in daily yoga sessions to support their well-being and physical development.”

Ofsted said that because of these activities, youngsters “make swift progress in their learning” and are “extremely well prepared” for school.

Casper’s was rated inadeqaute in November over issues relating to safeguarding and youngsters’ personal development.

Inspectors had discovered that the manager “failed to meet their legal responsibility to notify Ofsted of a change in her name”.

And while they acknowledged staff’s understanding of supporting children's communication, they found workers did not always encourage children to share their ideas.

But following a visit on March 29, Ofsted now says: “All concerns raised at the last inspection have been fully addressed.

“Staff now skilfully foster children's involvement in their own learning to the highest level.

“Children’s views are highly respected, and staff help them to gain more confidence.”

Casper Nursery’s manager, Nikki Pope, is delighted that the hard work of her staff has been duly rewarded.

“We are so happy that we have rectified our previous result and finally put it all behind us,” said Ms Pope.

“It was a very stressful and upsetting time for us all, but we really supported each other through it and now we are over the moon that we are back to where we should be as an outstanding setting.

“All our families were so understanding and gave us their reassurance that we would be fine in the end which really kept us going.

“I am very happy to be celebrating my first year as owner with this result.”
