The jury in the body behind the bank murder case went to Folkestone this morning to see the crime scene.

The 12 members – together with barristers, police officers and Judge Adele Williams – travelled by coach from Canterbury to the back of Europa House in Sandgate Road.

It was there that homeless Tim Clayton died from his injuries on November 9 last year.

The prosecution at Canterbury Crown Court has alleged that he was murdered in a jealous rage by Brian Sharp.

Sharp, 54, of Manor Road, Folkestone has denied the charge.

Earlier the jury was shown CCTV footage of the moment Sharp was taken to Folkestone police station – initially on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm.

At the time he was wearing a light-coloured jacket with red staining at the front.

The prosecution has claimed that forensic tests showed it matched Mr Clayton’s blood.

Sharp was arrested as he and his lover Samantha Allen were returning from a trip to the pub on Sunday November 10.

Sharp told the officer: “I know what this is about. It’s about beating Tim up isn’t it?

“I admit it, he f***** deserved it.”

Sharp then alleged that Mr Clayton had smashed up his record collection which he kept at Ms Allen’s flat.

He added: “If you do a wrong un..expect a wrong un. I believe in karma. He deserves it. I gave him a couple of smacks. I admit it.

“I can take it, I hit him. I ain't going to lie. He deserved it. I would do it again.”

Sharp is then heard to say: “I didn’t hit him hard, just gave him a couple of slaps.. I ain't bothered about him.

"He’s a waste of space. It’s ABH, I never used a weapon.”

The prosecution has claimed that he was later told he was going to be charged with murder.

Sharp is alleged to have replied:”This is serious s***. I didn’t kill him.”

Ms Allen has claimed that Sharp hated Mr Clayton “with a vengeance” because of his relationship with Allen.

Prosecutor Ian Hope told the jury:“The Crown says that, fuelled by alcohol, Sharp set upon Mr Clayton and, driven by rage and jealousy, then subjected him to a vicious beating, involving repeated punches and kicking.”

He claimed the blows were so severe they caused severe injuries to the victim and led to his death.
