A popular harbourside restaurant has been named as one of the UK's best with a view.

Rocksalt in Folkestone was featured as sixth out of the top seven 'destination' restaurants with a view.

The list, compiled by The Times, praised the coast-side restaurant's floor-to-ceiling windows and wraparound outdoor terrace.

Travel writer Hannah Ralph wrote: "Oh, we do love a floor-to-ceiling view, which is good news for this harbourfront restaurant on England’s southeast coast.

"One to save for summer when you can dine outdoors, Rocksalt's wraparound outdoor terrace practically tips into the Channel, with a view out towards the artist Richard Woods's floating bungalow installation, whose miniature windows peek above the water's surface."

Ms Ralph also praised the restaurant's food, saying: "The menu might as well have been imaged by Poseidon himself: a whirlwind of Pyefleet oysters, Folkestone brown crab, seaweed crusted squid and soft Rye Bap scallops."

The news outlet also described the four hotel rooms as having "everything you could want for a sleepover by the sea".

In March, former head chef Scott Dineen told KentOnline he was living his "dream of running a great restaurant" in his hometown.

The restaurant was previously run by Michelin-starred chef Mark Sargeant who stepped away from the flagship restaurant citing "unresolvable differences" with his business partner Josh De Haan.

The restaurant has become an iconic landmark since it opened in 2011.
