'Knife-wielding shoplifter' arrested in Folkestone

A suspected shoplifter has been arrested in Folkestone after allegedly brandishing a knife at a security guard.

The worker was reportedly threatened with the blade after he detained a man on suspicion of stealing from a business in the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet in Kimberly Way, Ashford.

The man is said to have fled the scene and the incident was reported to police.

After police launched an investigation which included looking at CCTV, a 35-year-old man was arrested today in Folkestone on suspicion of theft and affray.

The man has also been arrested on suspicion of a theft that took place on the same day in a shop in Sandgate Road, Folkestone.

He remains in custody.
