Flowers have been left at the depot in Folkestone where a worker was killed by a dustcart.

Police were called at 10.50am on Friday after reports a man had been hit by a refuse lorry in Ross Way near Military Road.

Ambulance crews were called out and a 60-year-old man died from his injuries.

Two fire engines from Canterbury were also sent, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's believed the refuse lorry reversed and crushed the man.

An investigation has now been started by Kent Police and the Health and Safety Executive.

Rich Airey, of South East Coast Ambulance, confirmed they were sent to the scene.

He added: "We sent a number of ambulance crews to the scene but sadly they were unable to resuscitate the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene."

A spokesman for Shepway District Council said: "We are sorry to learn that there has been a fatality at Ross Depot and we offer our sincere condolences to the family, friends and work colleagues of the deceased.

"The council shares the depot with our recycling and waste contractor Veolia, and with them, will support any investigation into the cause of death."

Veolia has yet to comment on the incident.
