Black Mercedes crashes into lamppost in Sandgate Road, Folkestone

Dramatic images show the aftermath of a car crashing into a lamppost.
The accident happened along Sandgate Road at the roundabout by Castle Hill Avenue in Folkestone.
A passerby at the time told KentOnline that there was “no sign” of the driver and the accident had caused a suspected gas leak.
The left side of the vehicle, which was a black Mercedes, was damaged and the front bumper had been completely ripped off.
A police spokeswoman said: “We were called to a report of a car colliding with a lamppost at 16.57pm.
“Officers attended the scene in Sandgate Road, Folkestone and following vehicle recovery, the road was reopened by around 10pm.
“Enquiries are ongoing after the occupants of the vehicle reportedly left the scene without speaking to officers.”
A fire engine was also sent to the incident and crews helped police.
The ambulance service has been contacted for more information.
