07:00, 24 August 2015
A suspected illegal immigrant has appeared in court accused of walking nearly the entire length of the Channel Tunnel.
Abdul Haroun, a 40-year-old Sudanese national, was arrested a short distance from the British entrance to the 31-mile tunnel earlier this month.
Wearing a grey shirt, Haroon appeared via video link from Elmley prison on Sheppey.
Through an interpreter, he pleaded not guilty to obstructing an engine or carriage under the 1861 Railway Act.
He was remanded in custody until January 4 next year.
