One lane on a busy slip coast bound slip road has been closed while repairs are made to a "sunken" drain cover.
Motorists using the M20 junction 13 slip road at Cheriton may experience minor delays while the work goes ahead.
Kent County Council Highways department said that the work may not be completed until around 3pm today, just before this evening's rush hour.
The severity of the incident has been labelled as high, and the closure has only just been implemented at around 11.40am.
The KCC statement said: "The M20 junction 13 coast bound slip road and lane one of the main carriageway are closed to enable Highways England to carry out the emergency repair of a sunken cover.
"Please expect minor delays in the area."
