More travellers pitch up in Folkestone
14:19, 11 May 2017
A group of five caravans have rocked up in a field two miles from where travellers were evicted.
Nine caravans, trucks and two cars gathered at Radnor Park in Folkestone on Tuesday afternoon and were paid a visit by Shepway District Council (SDC) within hours.
Yesterday, SDC and the police managed to move them off the town centre space and workers were seen picking up litter from the area afterwards.
But less than a day later, more caravans have arrived on land near St Martin's Plain, off Horn Street, Cheriton.
But the council has confirmed that the caravans belong to a family visiting relatives in Folkestone.
A spokesman said: "The small number of travellers at St Martin’s Plain are regular and frequent visitors to this area, which is close to where a member of their family lives.
"They are on private land and we understand the landowner is taking steps to have them removed.
"There are currently five caravans there.
"These travellers are not the same as those who pitched their vans at Radnor Park earlier this week."
