Queues built up after a trailer spilled its load following an accident with a lorry on the M20.
The coastbound stretch of the motorway was blocked for more than an hour after the crash between J13 for the A20 at Folkestone and J12 for Cheriton.
It comes after a car towing a trailer was in a crash with a lorry.
The trailer overturned, spilling aggregate onto the carriageway, just before the Round Hill Tunnel.
Traffic was trapped, and was turned around to leave the motorway via the J13 slip road.
The road re-opened at about 2.30pm.
