Folkestone and Hythe MP Damian Collins has office broken into as burglars also target Vanity Flair spa in West Cliff Gardens
16:30, 09 August 2017
An MP hopes arrests will be made quickly after his offices were damaged during a break-in.
Raiders also targeted his neighbour's beauty spa business in the property above, leaving a trail of destruction as well as underwear, blood and weapons strewn about the place.
Revellers boozed up on champagne in the sauna in the Vanity Flair business in West Cliff Gardens, above Damian Collins's office in Folkestone.
Mr Collins said his "main concern" was the impact it will have on the business upstairs, run by Stacey McLaughlin.
She posted on Facebook saying she was devastated after seeing the damage to the business she had "worked her life" for and wanted the culprits found.
Forensic teams were seen outside the building yesterday morning after the break-in on Monday night.
It has been claimed drug needles and underwear were found strewn around the spa the following morning, but police did not confirm the details.
Ms McLaughlin said the sauna and other equipment had been broken while laptops and money were stolen.
She described the vandals as a "bunch of clowns" after they left an axe, hammers, knife and blood around the property.
She also warned residents to look out for Decleor products being sold as the spa is one of the only registered stockists in the south east.
Mr Collins said: "There has been a break in which affected both my office and that of the business above.
"As this is now part of a police investigation it wouldn't be appropriate for me to go into the fine details of what happened.
"My main concern is for the impact this will have had on the Vanity Flair business above my office which was also broken into.
"I hope that Kent Police can swiftly apprehend the people who have done this, so that they cannot cause any further damage to people’s property, and disturb businesses and residents in the town centre.
"Whilst the break in to my office has made a mess, there do not appear to have been deliberate acts of vandalism within the office itself, and there has been no damage to or loss of office equipment."
He added all personal confidential information relating to constituents' case work remained stored safely at his office in Westminster.
A police spokesman said: "Kent Police received a report of a burglary at two business premises in West Cliff Gardens, Folkestone.
"It is believed the burglaries took place between Monday, August 7 and Tuesday, August 8.
"Officers are currently carrying out enquiries in the area."
Police said anyone who saw anything or has more information is asked to call 101 quoting reference 08-0243.
