Marleys in Folkestone’s Creative Quarter confirms plans to move from The Old High Street to South Street

A popular cafe in the heart of a busy seaside town has announced plans to up sticks – with hopes of completing the move before winter.
Marleys, in Folkestone’s Creative Quarter, has confirmed it plans to ditch its current home in The Old High Street.
In a statement released on the company's Instagram, bosses Mark Hogarth and Charly Mayo revealed the ambitious scheme after deciding they had “outgrown current premises”.
“It’s our 5th birthday this year. We’ve achieved so much more than we ever imagined! And we can all agree, we’ve outgrown current premises,” they said.
“With hour-long brunch queues so big that we turn half of you away and a two-week waiting list for weekend bookings, it’s probably about time we expand.
“This is the perfect chance to really thank everyone that loyally supports us, for constantly coming back through some very tough times, and for investing in our team and brand.”
Luckily for its loyal fans, Marleys will be moving just a stone’s throw away in the town – taking up residence in 2-4 South Street.
It is hoped the planned move will allow the cafe to double its capacity whilst embracing life closer to the beloved beach and Harbour Arm.
The eatery will continue to operate as normal for the summer, with hopes of completing the change by September or October – with a week-long closure before the grand opening.
Discussing the relocation, Mark and Charly’s joint statement declared little else would change, promising the “same team, same food, same decor and style, same ethos” but “a little bigger and a lot better”.
First opening in December 2018, the eatery filled the gap left by Ebony and Ivory while its future home played host to Pick Up Pintxos, a Basque-inspired restaurant which closed its doors in May this year.
With a five-star rating on Tripadvisor – with 320 out of 346 reviews deeming the business ‘excellent’ – the firm has won many plaudits for its menu, which includes flat iron steak, millionaire shortbread pancakes and salted caramel affogato.
One customer called it “food to die for” whilst another found it to be a “great independent restaurant”.
It also boasts an official Tripadvisor award, with the eatery bearing the Travellers’ Choice 2022 badge on the website.
