One person has been arrested following a demonstration at an Army barracks where asylum seekers are being housed.
About 200 campaigners showing solidarity towards the asylum seekers gathered outside Napier Barracks, Folkestone, for about three hours.
They were also joined by separate far-right groups who were counter protesting.
Police say vast majority at the demonstration were respectful and there no major incidents of disorder.
One person was detained on suspicion of causing criminal damage and they remain in custody as part of ongoing enquiries.
Superintendent Amanda Tillotson said: "I would like to express my thanks to the vast majority of attendees, who were respectful of other people in attendance, the wider community and our officers.
"We recognise that events of this nature can cause some localised disruption which is an inconvenience for the surrounding community.
"Our specially trained and experienced officers were able to keep this to a minimum and we are appreciative of the understanding shown by residents."
Campaigners were chanting "refugees are welcome here" during the demonstration.
Asylum seekers inside the barracks were waving back at the crowds as they played Toy Story's You've Got a Friend in Me.
The Folkestone camp will house up to 400 adult asylum seekers until next autumn.
