The drama is thought to have centred around the eastern end of the street close to the junction with Tontine Street.

Phil Godden, owner of the nearby Blooms restaurant, told KentOnline today: "I don't know what's going on but I have seen two police officers standing guard outside an empty shop.
"I have also seen one police car on The Old High Street and two in the nearby car park at the bottom of the hill. There was a heavier police presence earlier on this morning."
Other locals said they believed the incident had centred around a residential property close to the former JG's arcade.
