Police say a spate of burglaries which happened on the same day could be linked.

Officers were called after cash and jewellery were taken during four break-ins across Folkestone on Wednesday, January 17.

Between noon and 1.30pm a homeowner in Clifton Crescent in the town centre reported that jewels were taken, and described seeing two men in his living room, one was wearing a trilby hat and the other a cap.

Then between 1.30pm and 2.15pm there was a burglary at Snowdrop Close in the Park Farm area, where the thieves broke through the conservatory door but nothing was believed to have been stolen.

A resident in The Durlocks near the harbour reported their front door had been broken down and that cash had been stolen between 2.20pm and 6pm.

Then between 3pm and 6.30pm thieves smashed their way through a back door and took a safe containing jewels at Shireway Close, off Cherry Garden Avenue.

A witness reported that a car drove into the close then quickly turned round and sped off. The driver is described as a stocky, white man in his late 40s who was wearing a dark jacket and light denim jeans, with a dark woolly hat.

Det Con Rosalynd Friend said: “We aren’t ruling out that these burglaries are linked. On all of these occasions the properties were secure but the doors had been forced open.

“We would always encourage people to lock away their valuables, out of sight of burglars.”

Witnesses and those with information are asked to call the police on 01843 222289 and quote reference ZY/2267/17.
