Bargain lovers will have one less Poundland store to pick from in a town centre as the brand reveals its plans to close one of its branches.

Poundland is leaving its Sandgate Road base in Folkestone, which was formerly Woolworths, on Saturday, March 11.

Its second store, which is only a short walk away in Bouverie Place Shopping Centre, will remain.

A spokesman for the budget firm did not give a reason for the departure, but it was announced in November that 80 of its stores would close after it was taken over by Steinhoff International, a South African company.

It is not yet known what will replace it.
