It's Hammer time in Folkestone.

MC Hammer has backed the plans to build a brand new multi-sports centre in Folkestone telling MP Damian Collins they are "very innovative".

The American rapper, most famous for the 1990 hit single 'U Can't Touch This', tweeted his support for the plans revealed by The Roger De Haan Charitable Trust earlier this month.

The plans for a six-storey multi-use urban sports centre including skate park, climbing and boxing went on public display last week and have received widespread excitement from residents.

The building is said to be a "world first" designed by the Hythe-based Guy Hollaway Architects practice.

The news has featured in worldwide media coverage as well.

Hammer, from Oakland in California, retweeted an article posted by Wired magazine on Thursday.

MP Damian Collins spotted the tweet and took to his own Twitter account saying: "Surely not. I’m hearing even MC Hammer has been tweeting about and the plans for a new, first of its kind urban sports centre".

And he then quoted and retweeted Mr Collins calling the plans "very innovative" before replying to Sandgate parish councillor Tim Prater.
