Live updates: Red Arrows in Folkestone this afternoon

13:00, 17 June 2016

Bad weather forced the Red Arrows to cancel their show in Kent this afternoon.

Nervous spectators have been staring skywards all day waiting to find out if the RAF display team would arrive.

But just before 2.30pm the team's supervisor confirmed they would not be appearing as heavy rain and storms forced them to cancel at the last minute.

Organisers and the Red Arrows earlier confirmed the show was still going as planned at 2pm.

But heavy downpours just as the team was due to arrive forced them to abandon the show.

The team's supervisor helicopter, known as Red 10, landed on the Rotunda on the seafront earlier this morning.

Pilots were ready to take-off from RAF Wattisham near Colchester at 1.43pm.

But bad weather in the area in Essex forced them to stay on the ground.

Coupled with bad weather over Folkestone at the same time it forced the team to say at the airbase.

A statement from Shepway District Council said: "We are sorry to say that we have just been informed that there will be no Red Arrows display or landing today in Folkestone due to the poor weather conditions."

Earlier in the day Red 10 said the team was "keeping a close eye" on the showers forecasted.
