Pavilion Road remains closed in both directions between Cheriton Road and Bournemouth Road.

Police say they were called to the scene - where a red Ford Fiesta has been seen with a shattered windscreen - shortly before 2.30pm.

A spokesman said this afternoon: "Kent Police, along with South Coast Ambulance Service and the air ambulance, are currently at the scene of a collision involving a car and pedestrian in Radnor Park Road, Folkestone.

"The road is currently closed between Cheriton Road and Bournemouth Road while emergency services deal with the incident."

Maria Sadler, barmaid at the nearby Park Inn, said: "When the air ambulance arrived it stayed on the ground for about 40 minutes.

"It made me guess they were treating a patient inside it.

"There were several ambulance and police cars, some of those unmarked.

"It was thought there may have been seven police cars at first but later in the afternoon it went down to four.

"The area near the bowls club (Folkestone Parks) had been taped off so nobody could walk there."

Matthew McRory, a member of staff at the Radnor Park Tea Room: "The area of roundabout opposite the railway station (Folkestone Central) was also sealed off.

"It was sunny today so there were a lot of people in the park.

"They must have all been wondering what was going on."

Police have yet to release any further details about the injured pedestrian or the severity of her condition.

But serious crash investigators have been pictured at the scene taking photographs and measurements.
