Rumours that Folkestone Central station will close have been quashed by Network Rail
17:00, 14 March 2014
Rumours that Folkestone Central railway station will be closed by Network Rail have been quashed.
The line emerged on social media website Twitter this morning but Network Rail, who run the infrastructure of the entire country's rail network, were quick to quash the rumour.
If any such plans were on the cards Network Rail would have to publish a formal closure notice, which would then be put out to public consultation, as was the case with the harbour branch line in November.
Network Rail spokesman Chris Denham said: "There are no plans either now or even predicted in the future to close a station that attracts one million passenger journeys a year.
"We and Southeastern recently improved the station under the National Station Improvement Programme and its services are now the best they have ever been."
